2020-2021

This course takes a journey through chemistry in the Fall and then continues with physics in the Spring.  It is set up to help teach students how to learn and how to study.  The lab is designed to foster teamwork and class unity, as well as being hands-on.

Students are given an outline of course work required to complete as school work each week, which includes the student correcting and grading work that is turned in for review.   Students  are also responsible for writing up their lab reports to cover labs and activities, then turn them in for evaluation.

Work is required to be organized in the manner outlined at Orientation and is part of the course evaluation.  Grading focuses on following directions and on-time full completion of assignments in order to help teach a valuable life skill that also assists students in their future academics.

Please note that Schoology is the platform used for assignments and communication between the teacher and student, so access to a computer and printer are essential to this class.

2020-2021

Our chemistry text is described by the author in the following manner.  “Chemistry is an amazing branch of science that affects us every day yet few people realize it, or even give it much thought.  Without chemistry, there would be nothing made of plastic, there would be no rubber tires, no tin cans, no televisions, no microwave ovens, or something as simple as wax paper.”

Moving on to physics, each concept is clearly explained with text that speaks in layman’s' terms, and illustrates each concept with examples from history and real life. Students will learn about the laws, principles and effects of physics throughout our universe.  This is a great foundation to prepare your student.

The texts are engaging and the labs re-enforce what is presented.  Labs are fun and all about team activities.  Lab time will include the 101 Series videos for each semester.  Success is based on participation, so students must come prepared.

All work is kept organized and together in their notebook, which is a vital component of the course work.

This and more are detailed at our Required Orientation.

Looking forward to our exciting adventure as we do this together!

TIME COMMITMENT:

Each student may have different time commitments needed to complete the work, based on their particular skill set.  It generally takes six weeks to fall into a routine and determine the time allotment needed for your student to do their best in this course.

This is one of the many things addressed at our Orientation.

Accountability

A higher level of accountability is incorporated into the course.  To maintain enrollment, students must follow through on weekly assignments.  A vital component of the course grade evaluation is following instructions and keeping work organized.  It begins at the required Student & Parent Orientation.  Our orientation is one week prior to classes starting and  is 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on the class and is typically held on the same day and at the same location as classes are scheduled.

This will be confirmed and a reminder sent.

Reminder:  Schoology is the platform used for assignments and communication between the teacher and student, so access to a computer and printer are essential to this class.

This will be a great year, so come ready to learn!
