2024-2025
Students are given an outline of course work required to complete as school work, which includes the student correcting and grading work they then upload on an online platform according to directions, so grades may be posted. Students are also responsible for writing up their lab reports to cover labs and activities, then post them to our online platform for evaluation.
There are 16 modules, which translate into 32 weeks of work to cover in 30 weeks, so students have a reading and work assignment to complete prior to our first class in the Fall as well as in the Spring semester.
Notebooks are a major part of the course. Student's course work is to be filed weekly.
Advice – Do not get behind!
Grading focuses on following directions and on-time full completion of assignments in order to help teach a valuable life skill that also assists students in their future academics.
This and more are detailed at our Student & Parent Orientation.
Please note we use an online platform for assignments and communication between the teacher and student, so access to a computer and printer are essential to this class.
2024-2025
The focus of the course is mastery of the subject and the best way to learn is to do; therefore two outside projects are incorporated. The projects are a vital part of the course grade. Students receive project packets, which include the scoring system and an outline of what work to accomplish each week. The Fall semester project covers the Periodic Table, then Building an Atom is the project for the Spring semester, which also includes a short presentation.
The course covers significant figures, units, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium.
Looking forward to our exciting adventure as we do this together!
Berean Builders curriculum - Discovering Design with Chemistry Set; Dr. Wile
PURCHASE: Scientific Calculator REQUIRED (Student brings calculator to EACH class); Book set (textbook + Answer Key & Tests book); PLUS Items on Supply List
2023-2024: This course incorporates math with science. A good working knowledge of algebra is needed. It is a college and work force preparatory class that is formatted to train students accordingly. The course is set up to help teach students how to learn and how to study. It is challenging, but fosters teamwork and class unity. Those who suffer together grow close!
TIME COMMITMENT:
This course requires time.
Per text – 45 to one hour per school day; however, it can vary greatly for each individual student.
It generally takes six weeks to fall into a routine and determine the time allotment needed for your student to do their best in this course.
This is one of the many things addressed at our Orientation.
The focus of this course is mastery of the material. The best way to accomplish this is by the student handling the material correctly as many times as possible, so everything is open book and students are GRADING and CORRECTING their own work in RED. Rather than turn it in, work is posted to an online platform. In order to maintain enrollment, students must complete these weekly assignments. Following directions is rewarded. Not doing so is penalized.
No late work is accepted without PRIOR approval and parental involvement.
Two absences are allowed each semester without penalty against the lab grade, but school work assigned to be done at home is still due according to the set schedule.
The vital component of the course grade evaluation is following instructions and keeping work organized.
These details and more are covered at the our Student & Parent Orientation.
What is expected is given in writing at Orientation and posted to our online platform. Class time is less this year, so this material is not discussed in class. If a parent or student has questions, first refer to packet given and resources on our online platform, then if needed schedule a one-on-one meeting time with the teacher. Our schedule does not allow for time the day of class.
Please click on Orientation for the date set aside for Orientation at TTC and to learn more.
The schedule for the day is posted closer to August, once classes have made, so please plan on having that day available.
This critical meeting establishes the student’s school year & the parents’ role in it.
Once the schedule is set for the day, a reminder and confirmation is sent out to parents in August.
Reminder: We use an online platform for assignments and communication between the teacher and student, so access to a computer and printer are essential to this class.
This will be a great year, so come ready to learn!
